World renowned classical guitarist Xuefei Yang recently played concert dates with the Henley Symphony Orchestra at Christ Church, Henley- On-Thames UK. The classical performances of Rodrigues Guitar Concerto "Aranjuez" took place on 28th and 29th June to a full house, supported by G9 loudspeakers to give a natural acoustic sound to the two concert event. Chris Braclik of Soundtrack Productions commented, “we put the G9 G15 cabinets at front of house with G12’s as delays, using G8’s as floor monitors. The natural acoustic sound achieved was stunning”. A spokesman for the HSO was extremely pleased with the overall sound support by Soundtrack Productions and remarked, "Thank you very much for doing such a good job. Everyone commented on the clarity and balance of the guitar".
Born in Beijing, and now based in London, the internationally acclaimed guitarist Xuefei Yang was the first guitarist in China to be offered a scholarship at The Royal Academy of Music. Fei was the first classical guitarist to graduate from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing with a BA degree and the first guitarist from mainland China to study classical guitar in the west. When John Williams came to Beijing, he was so impressed with her playing that he gave two of his own Smallman guitars to the Beijing Conservatory especially for her and other top students to play. Fei graduated from the famous London Royal Academy of Music with distinction, receiving a Recital Diploma, the highest performance award (Dip RAM) conferred. She also won the Dorothy Grinstead Prize and received the Principal’s prize for exceptional all-round studentship. In 2005, her outstanding achievements as a musician was once again recognised by the RAM, who granted Fei the title of “Associate.”
Xuefei Yang has been invited to perform in the worlds most prestigious venues including; The Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert hall, Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Konzerthaus Schubertsaal Vienna, Auditorium Nacional de Musica Madrid, Lincoln Center New York and the Herbst Theatre San Francisco. In Asia she has appeared at the National Concert Hall Taipei, Hong Kong City Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Center, Esplanade Singapore, Seoul Arts Centre and the Beijing Concert Hall. Fei has an exclusive international recording contract with EMI Classics. Her EMI debut album “Romance de Amor” was released in April 2006, reaching gold disc status in Hong Kong. Her second EMI Classics album, “40 Degrees North”, was released in April 2008, featuring music from Spain and her homeland China. It reached number 2 in the instrumental and chamber music charts in the UK. Fei has also appeared on numerous radio and television programmes including her performance at the 2008 Classical Brits on ITV1, BBC Proms, and China Central Television, who made a biographical documentary on Fei for their classical musician series .
